US Attorney's Office Sweep Snares Deal Rabbis
In its Ten-year investigation - Operation Big Rig - the FBI and US Attorney's offices pulled in a new crop of politicians and clergy accused of corruption in arrests today. The government said it laundered $3 million through its own sting, using a "cooperative witness", whose description seemed to point to Solomon Dwek, who was arrested in May 2006 for cashing a bad $25 million check at PNC Bank. He is described as a businessman and real estate developer.
Money paid to polictical campaigns in May was earmarked for favors.
Bill Waldie, the FBI Agent who also testified for the government at Asbury Park's former city manager Terry Weldon's sentencing, was praised at today's noon press conference by FBI agent, Weysun Dunn.
A search warrant was executed for Joseph Doria's home, said acting US Attorney Ralph J. Marra, Jr. Doria is the head of the state's Department of Community Affairs (DCA), which is the office citizens can call upon to confirm the legality or ethics of local government practices. Also under DCA is the office of financial services, which works with municipalities on their budgets and approves funding requests.
