Is the State Auditing Asbury Park's Books?

Rumors are circulating that State officials are in Asbury Park auditing our financial records. In light of the amount of State aid we receive, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't qualify for regular audits. Afterall the State has a right to know how its money is being spent.
So Asbury Radio checked with the State to see if there was any truth to the rumors. According to the Office of the Comptroller, under which a specially created division conducts investigations, and was told that they can't comment on on-going investigations; and, saying no or yes to the question would break that rule. However, if there is an investigation going on, the office will post its findings when complete, at www.stateof NJ.gov, go to departments, divisions and departments, office of the state comptroller.
Meanwhile the office takes confidential calls from residents who have concerns about government spending or other actions affecting the budget at 1-866-547-1121. Callers to the private hot line can remain anonymous. Just give the investigator the name of the county you're calling about.
