New Jersey's unemployment rate rose to 9.2% in June, up from 8.8% in May, according to the NJ Dept. of Labor & Workforce Development's July 15 announcement. The highest rate for NJ to date was 10.6% set in 1977.
The national rate is hovering at 9.7 percent.
In Asbury Park, unemployment is 11.6%, according to http://www.simplyhired.com/, which did not provide a date for that rate.
According to the same web site, Asbury Park has lost 33% of its jobs since November 2007.
